You get strange looks for reading history for fun? Hm... I'd say 'that never happened to me', but on second thought, dragging tomes on Assyrian and Sumerian history out of the uni library *does* somehow look as if it's work-related, so...

Yep. I only know one person in RL who's interested in history, and he's into costumed re-enactments, so is regarded as even weirder than I am. Clearly, I'm hanging around with the wrong people. *g*

1. Age, location, vocation?
42, Scotland, teaching.

2. Describe a bad habit of yours.
Twiddling with my hair.

3. What's one place you really want to visit before you die?
Petra.

4. If you should pick only one, what's your favorite HP fic?
If You Are Prepared, by [livejournal.com profile] cybele_san. It was the first slash story I read, I cried buckets. And then in true researcher mode, set out to discover whether more of the same existed ;-)

5. Share a dorky story about yourself.
In a moment of post-PhD euphoria, I declared that I could learn anything in a week. I have never been allowed to forget this, and so far have failed to learn Ancient Sumerian, String Theory and Boiler Engineering, along with lots of other things that people haven't got around to challenging me with yet.

6. What was your favorite toy at age 3?
A brown rabbit called Easter. At least, I knew it was a rabbit, but to the untrained eye it looked like a brown pancake with ears. I used to sleep on it.

7. At age 7?
Probably my rocking horse.

8. What's your favorite lj community?
[livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies. No competition.

9. Link me to an entry on your journal you'd like me to read/comment on.
Hmm. How about my holiday photos, here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/seventines/13849.html)? Though not if they will take hours to load.

10. What are your spiritual beliefs?
I'm one of those psychologists who believes that God is simply an artefact of human brain wiring.

11. What is your favorite HP artwork?
Anything by [livejournal.com profile] jereeza, but this (http://www.thereisnoy.com/illustration/frank_alice.jpg) picture of the Longbottoms seems a perfect illustration of the fic I'm writing about Alice.

12. Say something nice about another LJ user (not me).
[livejournal.com profile] lazy_neutrino writes great fics and sounds like the sort of person that I'd get on with in RL.

13. What do you eat for breakfast?
Porridge. Well, I do live in Scotland, but I eat it with lots of berries and fruit on it, not salt or sugar.

14. What's something weird you enjoy that gets you odd looks from other people?
See No. 13 ;-)

I admired those pictures the first time I saw them, and they're still gorgeous - and of course I admire anyone who can photograph well (says she who once took two pictures of a tower - top half, and lower half - because she failed to think of turning the bloody camera...). But the slightly grey atmosphere makes them look even better!

1. Age, location, vocation?

I am fifteen, a week and a day from being sixteen. I live in Connecticut, U.S.A. I'm a student... no time for anything else.

2. Describe a bad habit of yours.

Er... I tend to eat stuff for no reason. Even when I'm not hungry. ::shrugs::

3. What's one place you really want to visit before you die?

That I haven't already? :) Australia

4. If you should pick only one, what's your favorite HP fic?

Hmm... I love funny fics, so "Draco Malfoy, the Amazing, Bouncing... Rat?" by Maya has been my favorite since I read it back when I was a n00b.

5. Share a dorky story about yourself.

Er... when I was younger, my friends on the bus and I pretended to be the daughters of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. My name was Charry, because we were shipping H/Cho in that game. Meh. ::blushes::

6. What was your favorite toy at age 3?

Um... ::thinks:: The only picture of myself with a toy that I have shows me holding a plastic Bart Simpson.

7. At age 7?

Hmm. My bunches of dolls. :)

8. What's your favorite lj community?

I dunno. I'll say [livejournal.com profile] gutterpirates, 'cause I'm mod. :)

9. Link me to an entry on your journal you'd like me to read/comment on.

10. What are your spiritual beliefs?

11. What is your favorite HP artwork?

12. Say something nice about another LJ user (not me).

Eh... who should I pick? I'll pick [livejournal.com profile] seremanwe, because I've known her the longest. She's a great friend, and she makes excellent bookmarks.

13. What do you eat for breakfast?

Um... stuff. Just... random. :)

14. What's something weird you enjoy that gets you odd looks from other people?

Harry Potter. Joking. Ooh... I know. Fries/Chips dipped in mashed potatoes and gravy. Everyone kind of looks at me and is like, "Yeah..."

5. Share a dorky story about yourself. I sleep with a stuffed baby penguin named Downy. I brought it on my honeymoon.

11. What is your favorite HP artwork? Ooo, don't know! I love humorous artwork and also this one picture of Lucius and Narcissa, Bellatrix and Rodolphus and I think Rabastan and Snape at the Three Broomsticks having a nice butterbeer and dressed in Slytherin school outfits. I *loved* it.

Just a short reply, since I'm supposed to be sulking.

1. 30, Norway, unemployed
2. Bad habit...? Smoking.
3. Russia, across the country on the transsibirian railway
4. Don't really have one favourite, as I prefer one shots and have read too many good ones
5. When I was six, a man from the local paper came to interview me and a couple of other kids. We all thought it was terribly exciting, of course. But as he was going to talk with me, I saw a lady who was out walking her dog - a very friendly lady who let me hold the leash - so I ran off to talk with her instead. Who cares about the papers when there are animals around? I've pretty much continued like this.
6 & 7. I never bothered much with toys.

9. Nope. If you're interested, I assume you'll read/comment, if not, what's the point?
10. Agnostic with a personal grudge against God. Reincarnation, simply because I find the idea appealing (sometimes). Convinced Darwinist, and find those who oppose the idea entertaining. (Don't see any conflict between the idea of deities and evolusion.)
11. I don't have any interest in fanart.
12. [livejournal.com profile] mel_atalante just came back to LJ. :) She owns my heart (as I suspect she knows).
13. I don't eat breakfast.
14. My love for animals, I guess. Have four cats, am about to get a dog... Most people don't understand that as they see animals as a burden, not for the souls they are.

1. Age, location, vocation?

22, Canada, Office clerk at the moment, but not my vocation, really, thank God. I plan to teach eventually.

2. Describe a bad habit of yours.

I bite my nails when I'm nervous.

3. What's one place you really want to visit before you die?

England, for a number of reasons. And I will. So, on the more exotic end of things, I'd really, really like to see Egypt before I dide.

4. If you should pick only one, what's your favorite HP fic?

I keep coming back to Tess's classic Ghosts I Keep.

5. Share a dorky story about yourself.

Once upon a time when I was seventeen I took all the press releases from the office of the leader of the opposition while I was dorkily strolling around the legislature. It was one of those "Will anyone stop me?" moments. "No? Oh. Wow. I'm being *rebellious*."

6. What was your favorite toy at age 3?

A doll.

7. At age 7?

The same doll. I was a maternal child, even if I tortured dolls sometimes.

8. What's your favorite lj community?

[livejournal.com profile] hp_art_daily. Wonderful stuff every day.

9. Link me to an entry on your journal you'd like me to read/comment on.

10. What are your spiritual beliefs?

I'm Roman Catholic, and very deeply so. You know how people say, "I'm spiritual, but not religious?" If anything, I'm the opposite. Religion in general fascinates me, even though I have my own firmly held beliefs. Rituals, traditions, pilgrimages, devotions etc.

If I weren't Catholic, I think I'd be a wise woman in the woods with lots of potions and charms and amulets. I like to joke that I have the second sight, as my dreams can be uncannily prophetic.

11. What is your favorite HP artwork?

That's really hard to say. I've quite a few absolutely astounding favourites.

I think I'll have to go with Dear Tom

12. Say something nice about another LJ user (not me).

[livejournal.com profile] siriaeve appreciates badfic almost as much as me. Couldn't do without her sense of humour. As well as her willingness to serve as an audience/victim for my discoveries.

13. What do you eat for breakfast?

14. What's something weird you enjoy that gets you odd looks from other people?

4. If you should pick only one, what's your favorite HP fic?
Can't answer. A few faves: SECRET KEEPERS, VECTOR'S CHALLENGE, A HOPE (Antosha), LOST (DoubleEdgedSword), THE SLAYER AND THE SQUIB, THE BOOK. but I'm sure I've been unfair to a lot of others.

I got into superhero comics at the age when most people get out - sixteen years old. That means that I never had that suspicion about my own maturity or about the legitimacy of being a superhero fan, that a lot of fans tend to get. There is a terrible inferiority complex about something called "the real world" crawling around superhero fandom, to which I usually answer "I do not see the importance of the judgement of a 'real world' that reads The Sun". (In Germany, it would be Bild Zeitung.) Comics are an artform as good as any other, and there is nothing wrong about the superhero genre either.

End of this particular rant.

Generally I don't do these things, but you've caught me in a rambly mood, so prepare to rambled at, um, a lot.
1. Age, location, vocation?
19, Madison, Wisconsin (subject to change), soon-to-be college student.
2. Describe a bad habit of yours.
Reading. Seriously, I have been addicted -- and not in a joking way -- to reading since forever. I read instead of sleeping, doing any homework, paying attention in class, having a life . . . People say there's no such thing as reading too much. Sorry, there is.
3. What's one place you really want to visit before you die?
Um -- I really don't know. Right now I'm feeling a bit "there's no place like home" as in Alaska, but I grew up there and it's more of a feeling of going back to live there.
4. If you should pick only one, what's your favorite HP fic?
Aack! *Agonizes* Right now, I'm enthralled with rereading and obsessing over the Bittersweet Potion series, but that's subject to change . . . long-term might be different.
5. Share a dorky story about yourself.
Heh. There was this one long car ride with family, oh, shortly after OotP came out, and we were doing car games and ended up playing that game where one person names something and the next has to name something starting with the last letter of the first name. It can be done with animals, locations, proper names -- but we were doing it with Harry Potter characters, remembering all the obscure ones -- Petunia's friend Yvonne, Bulgarian Quidditch player Ivanova, old Archie in his nightgown, Mrs. Figg's cats Tibbles, Snowflake, and Mr. Paws . . . we didn't even have the books in the car with us, but we played that for a long time. Then when it finally petered out, I sat there counting alliterative names, and particularly P ones. There were a lot. *g*
6. What was your favorite toy at age 3?
Not at all sure I had one, unless one counts bedtime stories. The bedtime ritual consisted of PJs, brush teeth and all that, and then Dad would read one story and do bedsitting. He was always threatening to not do either or both if I didn't hurry up, but he told me later that although he could (and did) take away bedsitting, he only ever took away storytime once, and after the tantrum I threw he didn't quite dare try it again. (Um, yes, I did say I'd been addicted to reading since forever.)
7. At age 7?
Haha, still can't pick one.
8. What's your favorite lj community?
[livejournal.com profile] triofqf
9. Link me to an entry on your journal you'd like me to read/comment on.
10. What are your spiritual beliefs?
I'm a pantheist. (Not to be confused with a polytheist believing in a pantheon of gods -- it's totally different.) I don't currently identify as Christian, although I was raised in a Congregational Church and may someday get around to reading large enough portions of the Bible and credible associated texts that I would feel comfortable embracing that religion. But I don't feel like I, personally, can be half-assed about it.

Pantheist is actually quite a simple concept -- it's not a religion like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism so much as a descriptive word, like atheist, agnostic, polytheist, monotheist, or Deist. Basically it comes from Greek pan, all, and theos, God and means all is God. God and the Universe are one and the same. Everything is divine.

This past year I've been trying out my maternal grandparents' religion, which is Unitarian Universalism, but I don't quite identify myself with that religion either, at least not yet. I have my spiritual beliefs mostly worked out, but I have yet to make up my mind about organized religion.

(continued -- I told you I was rambly!)
11. What is your favorite HP artwork?
I don't really go after artwork all that much. Probably something by Seviet (marta) or Lunulet.
12. Say something nice about another LJ user (not me).
Go check out [livejournal.com profile] mpuppet's latest post, because it is omg one of the greatest reactions to any topic of HBP I've seen yet. She is really quite brilliant and I need a longer flist like I need a hole in my head but I may have to friend her anyhow.
13. What do you eat for breakfast?
Ha. Cold cereal, a lot. Mom always fed us oatmeal three days of the week and cream'o'wheat another two, and we all hated it but had to eat it anyway. Occasionally pancakes or waffles, when someone else makes them.
14. What's something weird you enjoy that gets you odd looks from other people?
Besides wandering around with my nose in a book? I was one of those children who are always climbing everything in sight. I still do, especially on a sugar-high. *g*

People say there's no such thing as reading too much. Sorry, there is.
I kind of agree, being cut from the same cloth, but then... it still isn't ;). I mean I *did* wonder if I had my priorities straight when I considered breaking up with a boyfriend way back because he cut into my reading time, but then I realised I *would* rather read, and broke off anyway... Probably qualifies for yet another dorky story...

1. Age, location, vocation? 19, at my computer, about to go to university.

2. Describe a bad habit of yours. My tendency to ignore things that I need to do because I don't want to/it scares me/I simply can't be bothered.

3. What's one place you really want to visit before you die? Hm ... I'm not sure. I like home a lot although I would love to see some places. New Zealand I think. It looks so pretty.

4. If you should pick only one, what's your favorite HP fic? A World Not So Black Nor White by [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1.

5. Share a dorky story about yourself. When I first read LotR I misread it so badly that I thought that Aragorn and Strider were seperate people and that Strider was a werewolf. My excuse for this is that I was in hospital at the time.

6. What was your favorite toy at age 3? Toy? No idea, I don't remember.

7. At age 7? Playmobil, no contest. That stuff ROCKS.

8. What's your favorite lj community? [livejournal.com profile] hp_conversation but I made it so it doesn't count. Otherwise, I can't think of one.

9. Link me to an entry on your journal you'd like me to read/comment on. Can't think of one.

10. What are your spiritual beliefs? I believe in God but not in any sort of organised religion. I believe in "Heaven" although it doesn't match most people's views of it and I don't believe in Hell. I can go on about this for ages so I shall curtail.

11. What is your favorite HP artwork? Everything on Blood, Sugar, Sex and Magik

12. Say something nice about another LJ user (not me). [livejournal.com profile] werewolf_song is one of the sweetest guys to walk the planet and talking to him is like a ready-made ego boost because he always makes me feel fantastic about myself.

13. What do you eat for breakfast? If I have breakfast? Jaffa cakes. Four jaffa cakes. (a type of soft cakey-buiscuit thing with a round orange bit in the middle and covered with a light cover of dark chocolate)

14. What's something weird you enjoy that gets you odd looks from other people? Doing the Badger song. With dance moves.

10: I'm a Christian but have some ideas that don't go with traditional thinking. While having a lot of the same thoughts and experiences that lead most people to conclude that organized religion is 100% evil (I don't think you're saying that... but many do.) I still find that there are things about God that other people have experienced and I have not. I'm not ready to cast the ability to learn from them to the winds because religion, like everything else in life, has its problems.
11: N/A
12: So many I could say so much about! Well, I think you'd like [livejournal.com profile] babybill. She's almost like you about HP. And thank you! [Glomps you]
13: Whatever I can grab if I have time.
14: Everything I enjoy gets odd looks...
